Due to many countries having holidays and deployment freezes at the end of December, there has been only a small change in the numbering plan this week. We saw 1683 different prefixes change across all countries, but in particular we saw 2 new companies join the numbering plan in Iran.
Anecdotally we have also heard that Iran has started requiring all inbound voice calls to be answered (regardless if the destination number exists) and the caller needs to key a DTMF code to continue the call - this may be an attempt to reduce unsolicited robocalls ingressing into the country.
The effect is that ASR rates will increase dramatically to the country.
ISO3 Country Updates
At the request of a download customer, we will be adding more granularity to our ISO3 codes for some countries. It was highlighted that we had not included the correct ISO3 country codes for 6 US territories (Guam GUM, US Virgin Islands VIR, North Mariana Islands MNP, American Samoa ASM and Puerto Rico PRI). These are currently listed as ISO3 USA in the country field of the database download. These will move to the correct ISO3 definitions this month.
