As you will no doubt have noticed, someone automated checking individual telephone numbers on the e164.com website last week. Whilst we welcome the attention, it did cause our technical team a few head-scratching hours whilst we worked out the best way to deal with the abuser.
A positive outcome is that after some technical-team magic wand waving, web searches for individual phone numbers on the e164.com homepage now take around 50 milliseconds - that's 5 one hundredths of a second (0.05 seconds). We are quite proud of the speed considering you can check any phone number, anywhere in the world, and we'll know within 50 milliseconds if it's a possible number and to which operator the regulator has assigned the number range.
We'll continue to work on the e164.com front end and keep you updated when any large changes happen.
